 Parking is across the street from the trailhead.  The parking area only holds two or three cars.

 Pass around the gate passing this faded signboard.

  

You will pass a maintenance building and a lovely lake.

 

 Follow the yellow Horseshoe trail blazes and when you reach the first Y, bear to the right.

  

 

Don't turn into the Crow's Nest Preserve. 

 At the next Y, again bear right.

 Above, looks like concrete but is really a boulder.

 Take about 85 steps from the beginning of the Y.

 Notice this beech tree about 25 steps off trail.

 

 Stand at the tree and look southeast. 

 

 Notice a large rock with a rotting railroad tie.  Next to that rock are two other rocks.  Look in the crevice between those rocks.

 Longer range look at the right tree.

 

Look across the trail to see this leaning two trunk tree.

 Wedged between the tree to its left and the fallen tree behind it is the Ruffed Grouse.
